Job and Person Specification
The New Town Bar has been catering for very discerning, mainly male and professional, clientele in Edinburgh for just over 20 years. Based in the heart of the City, the bar has been revitalised and re-invigorated over the past 4 years under new owners.
We seek an experienced, enthusiastic Manager who is looking for a fresh opportunity, to run all aspects of the Bar’s operations. Supported by 1 full time and 6 part-time bar staff most of whom have been with us over 18 months, your duties will encompass the following:

To manage all aspects of a profitable licensed establishment.

To ensure that the Bar provides an inviting and hospitable atmosphere to the predominantly Gay male customer base in terms of the premises, the beverages (and food where applicable) and high service levels.

Leadership, management and training of a team of staff to ensure friendly yet professional dealings with customers, suppliers and other visitors at all times.

To maintain and improve budgets; be responsible for all cash and stock at the premises and ensure systems are in place to minimise wastage.

Safe working & operating practices throughout the premises and in dealing with staff, customers, suppliers and the public ensuring a safe and legal environment for any persons on the premises.

Dealing with statutory authorities, breweries as required.

Generating ideas and initiatives for promotions, events and customer attraction and retention.

Ensuring maximum benefit is gained from the Newtown Bar website www.newtownbar.co.uk by updating events and providing timely and up to date information on promotions.

Supporting existing charities which are sponsored by the NTB and generating further ideas for support with the owners and customers.

Reviewing product lines (including food & beverage offerings) to ensure that the ranges delivers the best possible GP.

We are looking for someone with a can-do personality, enthusiastic and friendly – but totally honest and professional in their dealings with others. NTB supports a number of charities related to Gay men’s health and we would expect the new manager to embrace that interest.
